The Most Budaful City
When George Ezra released his song "Budapest" I didn't even realise it was a city, I was more interested in the catchy tune and singing along. I googled the city and the pictures showed this beautiful place with grand architecture and stunning views. So when my friends suggested it as a possible holiday destination I was eager to go and explore the city.
Budapest is cited as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and after seeing all the stunning views, I'm not surprised. The views from both sides of the River Danube are gorgeous. We stayed in Pest, the side of the river with the most atmosphere, near "party district" as the locals liked to call it.
The Hungarians have to be some of the nicest people I've met, from landing to leaving we could approach one of the locals and they'd be more than happy to help us with directions if we were lost. Although we hardly needed much help as Lucy and Caitlyn are like living Sat Navs.
All 4 of us were eager to make the most of our holiday so we agreed to wake up fairly early and get out and explore the sights. There is so much to do in Budapest other than sightseeing; we went to the thermal baths, a water park and tried some Hungarians drinks from different bars.
After a climb up the Gellért Hill, we were greated with this stunning view. A view of Pest from Buda.
Having fun in the Citadella at the top of the hill.
The Gellért Hill has many caves within, this one is referred to as "Saint Ivan's Cave" and has a chapel inside.
A trip to Széchenyi Thermal Bath was very much welcomed after our morning hike.
Széchenyi Thermal Bath is situated in the City Park which also has other tourists attractions including Vajdahunyad Castle.
The entrance to City Park is commonly known as Hősők tere (Heroes' Square).
Halászbástya (Fisherman's Bastion) is a terrace at the top of Castle Hill.
Castle District has to be one of my favourite places we visited in Budapest. I love anything remotely "princessy" so my parents found it very amusing when I sent them this photo captioned "I've bought myself a castle, picking up the keys on Friday".
Opposite Catle District is Parliament on the other side of the river.
The House of Parliament was very grand inside. They loved using the colour gold in their interior decoration.
Whilst waiting for our tour of Paliament to start, we took a little detour to see St Stephen's Basilica.
A trip abroad is never complete without checking out the local market. A wide range of Hungarian food was available to try.
There were lots of souvenirs, most things had a reference to Budapest.
We bought some cakes from this stand, they were delicious. Hungary certainly knows how to make scrummy deserts.
Couldn't resist taking a picture of these, Hungarian melons are absolute whoopers.
Just in case you didn't know how to spell Budapest.
The local food wasn't the only delicious things on offer, they also had fantastic cocktails; me and Holly very much appreciated this.
A day in the sun is never complete without a compulsary fruity cocktail.
Our holiday wasn't complete until we took a visit to "party district".
Szimpla Kert is a pub made from old ruins. It had indoor and outdoor spaces, graffiti on the wall and mismatches interior giving this location a unique yet chilled vibe.
Practicing our driving skills at Margaret Island.
Really appreciated being able to dip our toes in the fountain after riding around the island on our bike.
The fountain was so pretty at night. The water danced to different songs, it was so peaceful and relaxing.
We wanted to visited other places in Hungary so spent at few days in Siofok.
Siofok was a much more chilled environment and we spent the majority of our time there at the beach at Lake Balaton.
Ice-cream is a necessity during a holiday. We were so excited to try Chimney Cake (a very tasty cinnamon pastry) as an ice-cream cone.
This was such an enjoyable holiday and I'd definitely go back again! I had so much fun with the girls and we had such a laugh. Now the question is....where do we go next?
